although my school projects haven't started yet, i'm starting to feel like i'm having more things to do. well actually on second thought, i'm feeling this way because i'm still used to life during summer. i still want to watch my shows, i still want to waste time browsing social media. but because i actually have school work to do now, that means i'll have to sacrifice my leisure time to actually do work - catch up on stuff, homework and study for midterms. yes i can't believe i have a midterm test next week. wowww. so, well it's time to tell myself to buck up and stop thinking that i can slack my time away anymore.
studying aside, my crusade dg did campus blessing today! campus blessing is basically us going around the school in pairs, approaching strangers and asking them various questions about their lives and allowing them to respond by selecting pictures cards (soularium). it was my first time doing something like that (a bit like street evangelism in school) and i was obviously scared. and it didn't help that i'm an introvert. i'm glad we were paired up so i didn't have to face strangers alone. my partner had the experience of campus blessing in temasek poly and she shared the gospel in philippines too (on a mission trip). so she was quite experienced. both of us found it difficult to make that first step of approaching the person. but i thank God for His courage and His guidance to show us what people to approach.
it was really amazing that the 3 people we approached didn't reject us at all and they were rather willing to share with us their thoughts on their lives as well as who God is to them. hearing them talk about their ideas on religion, christianity and basically the concept of God was intriguing. growing up in a christian environment, most of the people around me had no qualms accepting the whole christian way of thinking. but these people had different viewpoints which i thought were probably common amongst many university students too. some of their statements and questions actually stumped me in that i know the 'correct' answer but i just couldn't really express myself. i guess it shows that i still need to further equip myself to face such questions. the fear of approaching people actually decreased by the time i approached the 3rd person. you kinda have the 'yes, i'm now ready to find more people' feeling after the first one.
all in all it was a really meaningful experience and i guess we not just blessed the people we talked to but also ourselves. it's encouraging to see how God actually works with just that short amount of time. i thank God for the courage and although i wasn't the active speaker throughout (my partner was), i'm glad i had the chance to try. i still have a long way to go but i trust that with more exposure i'll improve. this experience also taught me new things, learning from my partner how to respond to certain questions and also how to carry on the conversation in a way that points to God.
i never thought i'll do campus evangelism but this has shown me that when you really put your fears and trust in God, He'll work something amazing out of it.
on that note, i'll trust in God to carry me through the semester and placing Him as first priority and let all other things fall in place.
till then,

J.
