some thoughts on the uni-y camp that just ended last week:
i enjoyed myself even though it was really tiring. being part of logistics, you essentially don't get to enjoy the program of the camp because we are the ones that make sure the program gets going. a very different experience i would say. because in previous camps where i'm in the committee, i'm always in worship, so i get to enjoy the normal flow of programs and play the games and all. despite that, i enjoyed the times spent together with my fellow org comm members. people from the prologs + marketing + finance. it was fun even though we had to carry things here and there, doing all the 'sai gang'. definitely didn't regret joining the camp. met many awesome and funny people(: hopefully our friendship goes beyond the camp
other than that, it was my first time interacting with the intellectually disabled people. what can i say, it was really an eye opener. i wasn't even the first point of contact with them because the freshies were attached to their buddies. but through the program, i did come into contact with them. these people just seem to be living in their own world, they hardly respond to people calling their names or talking to them. they have their own way of thinking and different ways of expressing themselves. some are quiet, some are highly expressive, some are always cheerful, some like physical touch. each individual is unique and although it may seem like they act abnormally, it got me thinking that these people actually don't see themselves to be abnormal. perhaps we are the weird ones to them. in many ways these people may have a happier life and enjoy living more than us. i was really encouraged and touched by the sharing session by the freshman. i'm glad that our camp was a great success. the freshman had a meaningful time and i'm glad that our efforts, no matter what they may be, paid off.
working with intellectually disabled people really requires a lot of patience and perseverance. i admire those who work in the centres and homes for such people. i don't think i can ever do that.
we will never know why God allows such people to exist and why He allows such disabilities to be present. but all we can do is to trust in God's plan. He has a reason for everything. what we can do is to show our love to the less privileged. show our love to those who need it.
i'm glad that my summer commitments have finally come to an end. i'm glad that it was an eventful one.
sadly, school's starting next week. but i was thinking, instead of dreading school, i'm going to look forward to God's plan for me in school in the coming semester. i shall be excited to see how God's going to work in me and in the people around me. how He will once again not disappoint me, but allow  me to be thankful for everything He has planned out for me when i look back at everything. i shall be ready to be used by Him to face the upcoming semester(:
till then,

J.
