It's interesting how, when we're tourists, we take pictures and keep memories of things that we won't in our home country. what we think to be interesting and unique in the new country is most probably a common sight and deemed insignificant to the locals. maybe because of this, we treasure the times spent overseas more than time spent locally. we choose to have time to look around and observe, whereas in our normal lives, we take many common things for granted. until there are changes or extinction (for the lack of better word), do we appreciate it. all these thoughts came to mind when i witnessed a couple taking a photograph of a simple and normal, grey and red HDB flat while traveling on the public bus. instantly i knew they were tourists, i mean, who goes around taking photos of things you see everyday? so it made me realise what great difference tourists view our country and how we view our own country.
bus rides are the best time for reflections and thoughts. bus rides can become emotional when my thoughts lead me to a place where i always revisit and know that the problem/occurrence cannot be solved. pardon me for being weirdly philosophical/emo. it's just that it suddenly dawned upon me to actually journal down these thoughts i had while riding the bus today. and that's what i did, i typed them all onto my ipod.
another thought that came to mind was with regards to my occupation in the future. i was wondering if i were one of the rare few, who don't intend to continue in my current field of study for my whole life. if someone were to ask me what i intend to do with my degree, i think i'll say, "to get on with life and survive in the world, in the physical sense - food and accommodation". it's a mere money making tool to fund my interest in music. this always leads me to the same chain of thought that i can never do what i like in this world and people can't always fulfill their dreams for practical reasons. i shan't dwell too much on this same thought because it's more depressing than meaningful. instead, i guess i should consider how to use my intelligence and degree for God and my passion for music for God. that would ultimately allow me to live life to the fullest. is this what Jesus meant when He said, I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full? i guess in some sense, because He came, we have a hope to look towards, of His second coming to restore us to the heavenly Kingdom, and so we live for Him while here on earth.
what's the use of intelligence if we don't put it to use? what's the use of our talents and abilities if we don't use them?
till then,

J.
