just watched iron man 3. in 3D. my first ever movie in 3D. the movie was great!! like seriously i'm a fan of iron man. shan't talk about the movie cause everyone should just go catch it to know what happened. or rather even if you don't, just know that it's awesome.
so recently i've watched a good movie, watched a good live concert and bought some stuff today while shopping. i don't deny the fact that i'm happy. but all these made me realise that it's true that the happiness and joy one gets from such stuff doesn't last forever, heck it doesn't even last that long. give you a week or so, and the feeling is gone. reflecting on all happy occasions and wonderful events that happened in my life (or on anyone's life), you come to realize that the joy is temporal. so what if you get the best grades, so what if you get the best promotion and earn big bucks, so what if you get to drive big cars and live in a big house, so what if you have a million friends. i'm not saying all these things are not desirable, on the contrary they are very desirable (okay not the friend part). but what i'm trying to drive at is that, the feelings or adrenaline rush you get from them doesn't last for long. and after the feeling dies down, you'll probably feel empty inside. a kind of emptiness that can't be described, it's just there.
and so what's the solution? finding your purpose in life. and frankly speaking, i believe that no one's purpose in life will truly satisfy their inner being unless we choose to believe in God and become a follower of Christ. my youth pastor used to have a saying that stuck with me till now, 'the chief goal of men is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever'. now that's true. sure you can choose to think otherwise, but my thoughts on this: since we're created by God, there's surely a purpose for us being a part of His creation. and so i believe in each of our hearts is this God-shaped vacuum. we will always have this sense of emptiness in us no matter how many meaningful or fruitful things we do, unless we choose to fill this space with God. i don't know about you, but the kind of joy that lasts within me all come from Christ. i guess for me, without God in my life, i wonder why i even bother living. think about it, what do people hope to achieve by remaining alive on earth?
just some food for thought.
well, since exams ended, i've begun reading again. and reading, is a very interesting and engaging activity if you would ask me. reading stimulates the mind. it trains your imaginative skills. whenever i read a book, whatever words that come up, i have a picture in mind to fit that description. so the whole book unfolds like a movie in your own mind, self-made. i guess that's why most people would say that the book is always better than the movie whenever there are movies taken from books. our mind does want to engage in the imagination process, the process of creating. it's stimulating and therapeutic. i've only discovered a joy for reading in JC. don't know why. i guess previously i was too restless to sit down and read.
reading is a solo activity, highly suitable for introverts like me, who are known to have to recharge our 'battery' by doing individual activities. (makes us sound like robots) anyhow, reading is enjoyable. i'm currently still addicted to books written by harlan coben. amazing author i would say. highly recommended. i've so many other books sitting at home which i've yet to read, yet i borrowed 3 of his books from the library. just couldn't pass it up.
i'm just loving the life of having no exams and school now. such a great time to recharge and relax.
till then,

J.
